Emberpaw sat up and smiled. She actually accomplished an almost perfect pounce. She couldn't wait until she got to try and hunt live prey. Maybe I'll actually catch some instead of scaring it she thought.

Brokeneyes stood up and stretched out his claws raked through the ground as he did leaving deep marks in it, he stood up straight again and perked his ears waiting for a sound, he looked down at Emberpaw, "What can you smell?" he questioned, he himself could smell the forest, some birds, squirrels and also a few mice.

Emberpaw got to her paws. She opened her muzzle letting the scents of the forest hit her. She picked out some faint smells of squirrel and bird. A stronger scent, that she recognized as mouse hit her. "I smell a nearby mouse" she mewed. She turned slightly "its that way."

Brokeneyes nodded, "Alright" he meowed, "let's go get it then" he said standing up, "How about you lead the way?" He said questioning how far her ablities were to go naturally, it was his own method of training and he didn't care if anyone like it or not. His twisted green eyes stared out at the pine forest that surrounded them.

Emberpaw nodded. "Alright" she replied. She opened her maw once more and walked a few steps slowly. She could see the little brown shape scuttling at the base of a nearby tree. Here goes nothing she thought as she got into her crouch. She crept forward a few steps before bunching her muscles. She pounced at the mouse and ended up landing just beside it and stumbling into the tree. "Mousedung" she hissed as she felt pain radiate in her side where it connected with the tree.

Brokeneyes had followed slowly behind his fur blending in to the tree trunks around him, "close" he muttered, "You will need to work on aim I believe" he mewed, "But at least now I know where you are and what you need to improve on, try again once more" He said.

"Okay" she mewed excitedly. She was happy that Brokeneyes thought she was doing alright. She opened her maw to scent for more prey. The rare scent of rabbit reached her nose. She was unsure if she wanted to risk missing such a good meal but decided to go for it. She turned and slowly padded to near the rabbit. She crouched down and peered through the undergrowth. She saw the shape of a young grey rabbit sniffing at some leaves. She took a deep breath and crept forward. She lept and at that moment the rabbit heard her and dashed off. She landed in the space formerly occupied by the rabbit. "Mousedung" she muttered.

Brokeneyes snorted, "Emberpaw you have to be faster then that to catch a rabbit, you have to be about as fast a windclan" He huffed thinking about the windclanners parading around in their moorland full of rabbits, he rolled his eyes at the thought, "A mouse or a vole would be good for you right now" he added.

"Sorry" she mewed "I thought I would try." She looked down at her paws, she would never prove herself. Maybe I can try to leave tonight she thought to herself. "Do you want me to try again?" she asked. She was determined to catch something and maybe, just maybe she'd get a break from the teasing.

Emberpaw nodded. She had to get this one right. She opened up her maw once more and scented a nearby mouse. She crouched down low, being careful not to tangle her limbs. She looked a few foxlengths away and noticed a small brown mouse. She quietly crept forward and paused. She rested on her haunches and bunched up her muscles. She lept landing a little offside but managing to kill the mouse with a swift bite to the neck. She sat up and was radiating happiness. She looked to Brokeneyes for approval.

Brokeneyes had been following behind, his mohgany pelt was easily able to spot out in the open so he stayed near trees to get a better view of Emberpaw, he watched carefully, he had thought she would miss but was slightly impressed by her. His twisted green eyes looked at the mouse then back at her, he padded out his tail lashing from side to side, "Very good" He said, "I admit I am impressed I didn't think you would catch that one" he said, looking at her again, "Good job Emberpaw" he added.

Emberpaw smiled. I finally caught something she thought. "I thought i was going to miss too" she admitted. She didn't want to come off over confident to her mentor.

Brokeneyes nodded, "Did you now" He questioned, "Come on, let's get your catch back to camp" He said, he got and started to head back when he caught the scent of a robin, he got low to the ground, and stalked after it silently, he dropped into a crouch and then leapt in the air, he landed beside it, his first pounce to surprise it, it leapt up in the air in a frantic flapping frenzy. Brokeneyes smirked and jumped up clipping it's wing and dragged it down with him, he killed it swiftly.

Emberpaw bent down to collect her mouse in her jaws. She was hoping one or both of her brothers would be there to see her with her catch. She shook herself from her thought and padded after her mentor. She spotted him just as he brought down a robin. "Nice catch" she mewed around the mouse in her jaw.
